Toenail Fungus

Nail fungus is a very common nail disorder that affects as much as 12% of Americans.

Toenail fungus is rarely painful unless the growth is so excessive that it presses painfully when wearing shoes.

Symptoms of Nail Fungus

The most common symptoms of Onychomycosis or Tinea Unguium include discoloration, thickening and flakiness of the nails. Most of the time, only several toes are affected. Fungus can affect fingernails, but this is relatively rare.

Without proper treatment, a fungal nail infection will contaminate the entire nail and spread to other nails as well.

Clinical trials indicate that the effectiveness of oral prescriptions for Onychomychosis is less than 50% and can have serious side effects. Topical treatments are even less effective and need to be used for very long periods.

Our laser procedure is a safe and effective alternative to oral prescriptions. The laser treats the tissue affected by the fungus and kills the fungus without damaging the surrounding tissue.

What to Expect

The laser protocol involves 3-5 treatments every 6 weeks. We will monitor your progress. After the treatment you will be able to wear shoes and nail polish.

You will see the clearance of fungus as the nail grows out and can take 6-9 months, depending on how quickly your toenails grow. Full improvement can take up to one year. New, clear nail growth begins to show at the nail bed as the fungus affected portion of your nail grows out.

Treatments are not painful and you can resume normal activities as soon as each treatment is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Laser toe nail treatment work?

Tiny pulses of light from the laser pass through the toe nail to the fungus underneath. The fungus is treated without any damage to the surrounding nail or skin.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on how many toes are affected, the laser procedure will take 10-20 minutes.

What if I have more than one toe affected, do I have to pay more?

Some laser centers charge per toe. We treat all the toes whether they appear infected or not so we can minimize the possibility of one toe infecting another. Our price is for all 10 toes treated.

Is the laser toe nail treatment painful?

Most people feel a slight warming sensation during the the procedure. No pain medication is needed and most people find the treatment very easy to tolerate.

Can you treat fingernails as well?

Although rare, some people have fingernails infected. We can treat fingers as well. The price would be the same.

Are there any restrictions on my activity post procedure?

You can resume your normal activities immediately.

When will I see results?

You won’t notice anything immediately following treatment. However, as your nail grows out, the new nail growth should be clear. Toe nails grow slowly, especially nails infected with fungus. It may take 6-12 months for your toenail to clear.

Will the fungus come back?

Reinfection with toenail fungus may be acquired anywhere from your environment, for example, in damp areas such as public swimming pools. We can suggest ways to prevent the fungus from reoccurring.

When can I apply nail polish?

While it is important to remove nail polish, decoration and jewelry prior to treatment, you can reapply nail polish 24 hours after treatment.

How does the Laser toe nail treatment compare to other toenail fungus treatments?

Traditional treatments such as nail trimming, topical medicine, oral medicine or nail removal have significant drawbacks. Nail trimming doesn’t treat the fungus. Topical medicines need to be applied for 12 months and have a low success rate. Oral medicines are taken for 3 months but can cause liver or kidney problems. Our laser toe nail treatment is a quick, easy, safe, effective procedure that treats the fungus at the source.

How much does the treatment cost?

Treatment costs may vary. Please contact us for a free consultation.

Is there a charge for the initial consultation?

Initial consultations are complimentary. This gives both the client and the practitioner an opportunity to best determine what treatments would be beneficial, effective and practical.
