Toenail Fungus
Nail fungus is a very common nail disorder that affects as much as 12% of Americans.
Toenail fungus is rarely painful unless the growth is so excessive that it presses painfully when wearing shoes.
Symptoms of Nail Fungus
The most common symptoms of Onychomycosis or Tinea Unguium include discoloration, thickening and flakiness of the nails. Most of the time, only several toes are affected. Fungus can affect fingernails, but this is relatively rare.
Without proper treatment, a fungal nail infection will contaminate the entire nail and spread to other nails as well.
Clinical trials indicate that the effectiveness of oral prescriptions for Onychomychosis is less than 50% and can have serious side effects. Topical treatments are even less effective and need to be used for very long periods.
Our laser procedure is a safe and effective alternative to oral prescriptions. The laser treats the tissue affected by the fungus and kills the fungus without damaging the surrounding tissue.
What to Expect
You will see the clearance of fungus as the nail grows out and can take 6-9 months, depending on how quickly your toenails grow. Full improvement can take up to one year. New, clear nail growth begins to show at the nail bed as the fungus affected portion of your nail grows out.
Treatments are not painful and you can resume normal activities as soon as each treatment is complete.
