Electrology

Lakewood Laser & Skin Renewal offers a variety of different hair removal options to stop or reduce the growth of unwanted hair. Our goal is to remove your hair in a safe manner, resulting in attractive permanent hair reduction.

Treatments

If you want to remove white, grey, blonde or red hair, electrology is the only current effective method.

Electrology uses a special needle that carries a current to the hair follicle.  This generates heat, and through the process of thermolysis damages the hair follicle so that it cannot regrow hair.  Unlike laser hair removal, electrology treats one individual hair at a time.

The number of visits required to take care of a given area is variable, but tends to require quite a few more treatments than Laser. Just like with Laser treatments, the response of the hair varies depending on the individual, the area being treated and whether the hair is a result of hormonal influences (i.e. facial hair).

What to Expect

You will have an initial consultation with the electrologist to inspect the area(s) you would like to remove hair. They will give you instructions on how to prepare your skin before treatment and how long you need to grow your hair to ensure they can see and treat the hair follicles (this is about a week, in most cases). You may be asked to stop using skin care products, like retinoids, before treatment.

In some cases, a topical anesthetic may be applied to numb the area before treatment. You may experience stinging and heat during treatment and your skin may be red and tender after treatment. You will want to avoid sunlight, makeup and excessive sweating for approximately 24 hours after treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is electrology used instead of laser for hair removal?

Electrology is used for hair that does not contain melanin (e.g. white, grey, blonde, red) or when hair is not responding to laser hair removal treatment.

What does it feel like?

When the needle is inserted in the follicle you will feel a “prick” followed by moderately uncomfortable zing of the electric current.

How much does the treatment cost?

Treatment costs may vary. Please contact us for a free consultation.

Is there a charge for the initial consultation?

Initial consultations are complimentary. This gives both the client and the practitioner an opportunity to best determine what treatments would be beneficial, effective and practical.
