Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing is a non-ablative skincare treatment designed to improve skin conditions like wrinkles, scars, moles, birthmarks, and sagging skin without damaging the surrounding structure of the skin. This is a gentler treatment option for those who want the benefits of deep skin peels without the extended downtime.

CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

How Does CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

This procedure uses a laser, specially made of carbon dioxide, to remove the outer layers of damaged skin. A grid pattern of tiny pulses of light delivers a column of energy that will reach the skin’s deeper dermal layer to stimulate collagen production.

A fractionalized laser beam has an advantage over other laser treatments. Small areas of untreated skin remain between the treated spots to provide the cells and proteins to aid in the healing process. This results in faster healing and reduced downtime. The laser targets the water in the skin, so it can be used on all skin types and all parts of the body.

CO2 laser skin resurfacing can also target very specific areas of your skin with precision. This makes it particularly effective for healing scars and removing moles and birthmarks. The power of the laser is adjustable, making it a very versatile tool for not just the skin on your face, but the thinner skin on your neck and hands.

Am I a Good Candidate for this Treatment?

CO2 laser skin resurfacing can treat numerous skin issues. The laser is even frequently used in dermatologists’ offices to remove skin cancer lesions.

Here at Lakewood Laser, you might be a good candidate for CO2 laser skin treatments if you have:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Acne scars
  • Bumpy or rough skin
  • Large pores
  • Baggy or hooded eyes
  • Sagging skin due to decreased elasticity
  • Skin correction after “problem” facelift

This is by no means a full list of everything this procedure can treat!

Downtime and Recovery

Since the CO2 fractional laser penetrates the skin deeper than other lasers to generate collagen production, it has the longest downtime of any of our laser treatments. Typically it takes 5-7 days for the skin to complete the turnaround process before you can resume regular activities without causing harm to your skin. However, while it does require a longer downtime, this treatment provides faster and more dramatic results.

You can expect that you will have redness and some swelling at the treatment sites for the full 5-7 days. Depending on the severity of the treatment, you could experience pinpoint oozing and bleeding the first 2 days. Some crusting, flaking , and peeling are possible. If we are working on scar revision and tightening it’s typically just redness and swelling at the treatment site.

Results from CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

The Co2 laser skin resurfacing treatment, particularly if done on the face, will remove fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration caused by sun damage and give an all over tightening effect and more youthful appearance. It really smoothes out the face, tightens and corrects wrinkles and under eye bags. 1 – 3 treatments can make you look up to 10 years younger.

If working on scar revision the C02 laser is the gold standard for scar correction. This laser treatment also produces more even skin tone, texture, and brightness to the face. It reduces pore size and definitely gives a more tightening effect to any treated area.
